I got my controller today. It has an old-school rapid fire mod done to it, and it works extremely well. The best part: it's the elite controller. Yep, the black one. It should help me keep from confusing my controller with others.
Immediately, I put in Fable 2, but I kept getting a "disc cannot be read" error, so I just put in my old Conan demo disc. That game worked flawlessly, so I know it isn't necessarily the dvd drive's fault. The drive does like to scratch the discs a bit, sometimes, I think, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, after playing Conan for about ten minutes, I tried Dark Sector (or "darkSector"), but it, too, gave errors, so I tried Armored Core 4. AC4 worked flawlessly, and I really love that game.
After dinner and a little computer time, I tried Fable 2 again. I was able to get further into that game, but I had to keep blowing on the drive and crossing my fingers, and it eventually gave errors again. (I even ran into a couple random game crashes, where everything in the game freezes except the particle effects.) I got frustrated, sure, but I kept reloading the game (saving frequently) and could get further in the game each time. I figure I could install this game on the hard drive when the hard drive arrives.
I switched back to Dark Sector, and it worked this time around. After playing it, I have to say that it's one of the best third-person shooter (TPS?) games I ever played. I was so into that game that I couldn't put it down until two hours later!
I think the next game I'll buy is Halo 3 or one of the later Halo games. I'll get whatever is cheap. I'm not planning on getting another game for a while, though. I need to save my money and practice frugality until I find a long-term, reliable job. (Also, I feel that the 3.5 games I already have will provide months of entertainment for me.)
FJ is short for FantasyJam, the name of my site. I wanted an alias not used often (if ever) by other people, so I just went with "fjgamer", because I'm a gamer.
I would prefer to be called Jam or Jammer or something along those lines, but those names are way more common. In retrospect, I should have went with something more to do with my real name than my website title. Also, my website title, though I didn't know it at the time, could be confused for a band called Fantasy Jam.
